I began using Yousician at the end of August, 2021, and have been playing 15 minutes a day, almost every day, from then until now. During that time, I’ve come much farther than I would have thought possible. Since picking up a guitar for the first time, I have completed Yousician Levels 0-3, and part of 4, totalling:
- 10 Chords
- 17 “Units”
- 66 Songs
- 75 Activities
- 297 Gold Stars
- 303 Minutes of Playtime
- 508 Minutes of Practice Time
- 37 981 Notes/Chords Played
Not to mention I learned how to play Radioactive (Imagine Dragons) from my friend Nicole, Jolene (Dolly Parton) and 2Step (Ed Sheeran) from YouTube guitar tutorials, and Dead Man Walking (Jon Bellion) from online chord charts.
In terms of next steps, I’m going to continue with my 15 minutes a day within Yousician, start taking part in Yousician’s weekly challenges (a rotating selection of songs for varying skill levels that you can play as many times as you want to get the highest score and place on leaderboards (though I could care less about the leaderboards and mostly just want new songs that aren’t locked behind premium access)), and learn to play the intro to Wolves by Selena Gomez (song and guitar tutorial linked below).
I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity for free inquiry, which not only gave me the space to reflect on my learning process with a new instrument, but also held me accountable to stick with it and ultimately see the results I did. I think I’ve proven that as little as 15 minutes a day can be enough to learn a new skill, as long as we use that time consistently and build good habits. Thanks for coming along on this journey with me, and I’ll catch you later!
